Recipes: Homemade Instant Oatmeal & Hero Bars! 

Hero Bars 


6 Tbsp Sunflower oil (plus some for pan)
1/2 cup raw honey
1/2 cup turbinado sugar
pinch salt
dash of cinnamon, splash of vanilla (or both!)
2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup roasted almonds, well chopped
1 1/2 cups dried fruit of your choice (bananas, coconut, cranberries, raisins…)


Heat oven to 350 degrees. In small saucepan, combine oil, honey sugar and salt. Place over medium heat until all is gooey and mix well. Place fruit and almonds in blender and pulse until coarse. Place oats in large bowl and mix in cinnamon, vanilla (if desired) and then the fruit, almonds. Mix well and then make a well and pour in the liquids from saucepan. It should be fairly gooey. Line a 9×13 baking sheet with foil and then grease with sunflower oil. Pour in mixture and pat down with spatula. Cook for 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Let sit until cool and hardened and then chop into desired size and eat! Or wrap and send to a soldier!

Homemade Instant Oatmeal


2 cups instant oats (blended to make oat flour)
3 cups quick oats (whole)
3 tsp turbinado sugar
pinch salt
1 cup dried fruit and nuts (your choice of combination, we used banana & walnut)
cinnamon (your choice)


Blend 2 cups oats and place in large bowl, add in 3 cups oats (whole). Mix in sugar, salt and dried fruit and nuts. Mix all together, well! Your oatmeal is done! To package, take 2/3 cup of mixture and place in plastic baggie. To eat: place 2/3 cup of mix into a bowl and add in 1 cut boiling water, mix and let sit. Enjoy!  *Can also substitute hot milk for water.
